English Language में अनेक Adjectives और Adverbs है, जो Comparison show करने के लिए अपना Form (रूप) तीन प्रकार से बदलते हैं, जिन्हें Degrees of Comparison कहते हैं।
1. Henry's house is small.
हेनरी का घर छोटा है।
2. George's house is smaller than Nathan's.
जॉर्ज का घर नाथन से छोटा है।
3. Gary's house is the smallest of all.
गैरी का घर सबसे छोटा है।
उपरोक्त Sentences में प्रयुक्त Adjectives 'small, smaller, smallest' पर गौर करें। पहले Sentence में Adjective 'small' केवल यह इंगित करता है कि Henry का घर आकार में छोटा है। दूसरे Sentence में Adjective 'smaller' यह इंगित करता है कि George का घर Nathan की तुलना में अधिक छोटा है। और तीसरे Sentence में Adjective 'smallest' यह इंगित करता है कि Gary का घर सबसे छोटा है। इससे यह स्पष्ट होता है कि Comparison (तुलना) दिखाने के लिए Adjective अपना Form (रूप) बदलता है।
जब Adjective या Adverb का रूप Comparison (तुलना) दिखाने के लिए बदलता है, तो उसे Degrees of Comparision कहते हैं।

Kinds of Degree
Degree तीन प्रकार के होते हैं:
1) Position Degree
2) Comparative Degree
3) Superlative Degree
1. Position Degree
जब कोई Adjective या Adverb अपने मौलिक रूप में रहता है, तब उसे Position Degree कहते हैं।

हेनरी वफादार दोस्त है।
2. She writes beautifully.
वह खूबसूरती से लिखती है।
3. The weather is bad.
मौसम खराब है।

2. Comparative Degree
जब Adjective या Adverb से दो Persons (व्यक्तियों) या Things (वस्तुओं) में Comparison (तुलना) का बोध हो, तब इसे Comparative Degree कहते हैं।

1. His house is more beautiful than mine.
उसका घर मेरी तुलना में अधिक सुंदर है।
2. Today is a hotter than yesterday.
आज का दिन कल से अधिक गर्म है।
3. America is the richer than most other countries.
अमेरिका दूसरे अधिकांश देशों से अधिक अमीर है।
4. My horse runs faster than your dog.
मेरा घोड़ा आपके कुत्ते की तुलना में तेजी से दौड़ता है।
5. This book is better than the other book.
यह पुस्तक दूसरी पुस्तक से अच्छी है।
6. She walks more slowly than Jessica.

3. Superlative Degree
जब Adjective या Adverb से दो से अधिक Persons (व्यक्तियों) या Things (वस्तुओं) में Comparison (तुलना) का बोध हो, तब इसे Superlative Degree कहते हैं।
